In an ambitious achievement that reflects the excellence of students at Oman College of Management and Technology in harnessing artificial intelligence to serve occupational safety, a student team from the college has qualified for the final stage of the Al Ghalbi Award for Excellence and Innovation in Artificial Intelligence in the Oil and Gas Sector 2025. This comes after a strong performance and an honourable participation in the preliminary phase of the competition.
The project, which impressed the evaluation committee, is titled “A Worker Safety Monitoring System Using Artificial Intelligence through a Smart Helmet.” Its aim is to provide a safer work environment for workers in high-risk industrial sectors through an advanced smart helmet that integrates biotechnology, AI techniques, and real-time sensor technology.
The smart helmet can track the worker’s health status by monitoring vital signs such as body temperature and heart rate. It also contains sensors that detect falls or fainting incidents, in addition to a GPS system that allows for real-time location tracking and emergency alerts to be sent to the control room in case of danger. Built-in algorithms analyse data instantly and detect abnormal conditions, which contributes to reducing response times to accidents and saving lives.
The project has been implemented as a functional prototype that will be showcased in the final round, alongside a presentation to the judging panel scheduled for December 2025 in the Muscat Governorate.
The team consists of Waad Al Salmi, Riham Al Siyabi, Mathail Al Jahwari, and Ahed Al Alawi, under the supervision of Mr. Louay Al Nuaimy. Their qualification is the result of intensive research and practical efforts to develop the idea and transform it into a viable, real-world solution.
This achievement is a testament to the college’s leading position in the fields of technological innovation and artificial intelligence and reflects its commitment to empowering students to turn their ideas into real solutions that address challenges in key sectors within Oman and beyond.
As the college extends its heartfelt congratulations to its creative team, it also expresses pride in this honourable representation and wishes them success in the final stage encouraging all students to continue pursuing paths of innovation and academic excellence.
