As part of its commitment to preparing students for successful professional careers, the Training and Career Guidance Office at Oman College of Management and Technology organized an awareness workshop entitled “Rights and Duties of the Employee” on Tuesday, 16 June 2026, in Hall AC-007.
The workshop was delivered by Mr. Nasr bin Mohammed Al Siyabi, Legal Researcher II at the Directorate General of Labor Welfare, Ministry of Labor. The event was attended by several students interested in enhancing their understanding of workplace regulations, employees’ rights, and professional responsibilities.
Attendance was not limited to the College’s students and staff; the College also welcomed members of the local community and employees from various sectors as part of its commitment to promoting legal awareness and enhancing knowledge of employees’ rights and obligations. This topic is of great importance in fostering a work environment built on awareness, responsibility, and professional commitment.
The workshop aimed to raise awareness of the key provisions of the Omani Labor Law and to introduce participants to the legal framework governing the relationship between employees and employers in the Sultanate of Oman. The session provided attendees with valuable insights into the rights and responsibilities that shape professional relationships in the workplace, equipping them with essential knowledge to support their future career success.
During the workshop, Mr. Al Siyabi highlighted several important aspects of employment law, including employment contracts, working hours, leave entitlements, occupational health and safety requirements, and other labor-related regulations. He also emphasized the responsibilities of employees, stressing the importance of professionalism, ethical conduct, compliance with workplace policies, and adherence to legal standards.
The workshop featured an interactive discussion session that encouraged active participation from students. Attendees had the opportunity to raise questions and discuss practical workplace scenarios related to labor rights, employment practices, and career readiness. This interactive approach fostered meaningful dialogue and enabled students to better understand the expectations and challenges they may encounter in professional environments.
Students expressed their appreciation for the informative session, noting that it broadened their understanding of workplace rights and responsibilities while increasing their confidence in navigating future employment opportunities. Many participants highlighted the practical value of the workshop in preparing them for a successful transition from academic life to the labor market.
The workshop reflects Oman College of Management and Technology’s ongoing efforts to strengthen students’ employability skills, promote legal awareness, and provide opportunities for engagement with industry and government professionals. By offering such initiatives, the College continues to support the development of knowledgeable, responsible, and career-ready graduates capable of contributing effectively to the workforce and the broader community.
