The College Empowers Students with Dynamic Career Workshops: From Creative Pitching to Tailored Resumes

The Training and Career Guidance Office at Oman College of Management and Technology (OCMT) recently organized a series of workshops aimed at boosting students’ career readiness and professional development. These workshops, covering a range of essential skills, were well-received by the student body.

On November 28, 2024, the college hosted a workshop titled “Pitching Creative Ideas to Employers & Clients,” led by Ms. Fatma Al-Habsi. Held in Room AC-011, the session provided students with valuable insights into effectively pitching design concepts. Ms. Al-Habsi emphasized the importance of selecting the right ideas, presenting them compellingly, and tailoring pitches to industry standards. An interactive segment allowed participants to practice their pitches and receive feedback, leaving them better prepared to showcase their creativity to potential employers and clients.

Earlier, on November 26, 2024, the “Fundamentals of Resume Writing for Beginners” workshop took place in Room AC-109. Led by Ms. Shatha Dawood Al-Saidi, the session focused on creating professional resumes for entry-level jobs. Ms. Al-Saidi guided students on selecting relevant information, presenting it clearly, and tailoring resumes to industry standards. The hands-on activities and feedback session helped students refine their resumes, aligning them with industry expectations.

On November 19, 2024, the “Building a Business-Specific Resume” workshop was held in Room AC-001. Ms. Ibtisam Al-Harthi led the session, which aimed at helping students craft resumes tailored for business and finance careers. Key aspects included selecting pertinent information, clear presentation, and industry-specific tailoring. The interactive session allowed students to create and refine their resumes with feedback from Ms. Al-Harthi, enhancing their readiness for business roles.

Finally, on November 17, 2024, the “Resume Optimization for IT Professionals” workshop was conducted in Room AC-101. Dr. Kamal Uddijn Sarker led the session, focusing on tailoring resumes for tech and IT roles. Dr. Sarker highlighted the importance of including relevant information, clear presentation, and industry-specific tailoring. The interactive activities and feedback helped students optimize their resumes for the IT industry.

These workshops have significantly contributed to OCMT’s mission of supporting students’ career readiness and professional development, equipping them with the skills needed to excel in their future careers.
