Oman College of Management and Technology (OCMT), as part of its ongoing efforts to reinforce academic excellence and institutional integrity, organized a focused seminar for its faculty members under the title:

“Enhancing Academic Success Through Effective Advising and Academic Integrity.” The seminar, held on Monday, June 16, 2025, from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM in Room AC-002, was delivered by Mr. Louay Al Nuaimy, the College Academic Advising Officer, with the support and presence of the College Deanship. The session brought together teaching staff across departments to reflect on their essential roles in academic advising, classroom conduct, and examination oversight. Designed exclusively for faculty members, the seminar aimed to strengthen the academic advising framework and ensure consistent application of ethical and professional standards. Faculty were presented with practical guidance on how to advise students effectively across different academic levels, particularly at-risk and final-year students. Topics included personalized academic planning, monitoring student progress, and documenting advisory interactions in the Academic Tracking System (ATS). The seminar also addressed instructor responsibilities in teaching and assessment, with an emphasis on fairness, transparency, and the need for respectful engagement with students. Particular attention was given to avoiding bias, maintaining classroom discipline, and promoting inclusive learning environments. A dedicated segment outlined exam invigilation responsibilities, including pre-exam hall setup, enforcement of rules regarding exam entry and exit, handling restroom breaks, and preventing the use of unauthorized materials. Faculty were reminded of procedures for documenting incidents and the importance of vigilance to maintain exam integrity. The seminar proceeded to cover in depth the categories of academic misconduct, such as cheating, plagiarism, data fabrication, bribery, and disruptive behavior, along with their associated consequences. Faculty were encouraged to report violations and maintain consistent disciplinary standards. Additionally, the session addressed harassment and unethical behavior, urging staff to uphold professionalism and report misconduct through official channels. In his concluding remarks, Mr. Al Nuaimy emphasized that “the success of any advising system depends on the active participation and ethical commitment of faculty members.” The seminar closed with an open discussion, allowing faculty to ask questions and share reflections on academic challenges and best practices. Through initiatives like this, OCMT reaffirms its dedication to fostering a culture of academic integrity, institutional responsibility, and high-quality education.
