In a distinguished celebratory atmosphere held in the Wilayat of Barka, South Al Batinah Governorate, on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, Oman College of Management and Technology (OCMT) participated in the closing ceremony of the 3rd edition of the South Al Batinah Chamber of Commerce and Industry Award for Excellence, Innovation, and Sustainability, organized by the Chamber's local branch. The event was held under the patronage of H.E. Sheikh Khalid bin Hilal Al-Maawali, Chairman of the Shura Council, with the honored presence of H.E. Eng. Masoud bin Saeed Al-Hashmi, Governor of South Al Batinah, and Eng. Hamoud bin Salim Al-Saadi, Second Deputy Chairman of the Chamber and Chairman of the Chamber’s South Al Batinah branch, alongside a distinguished group of officials, private sector representatives, and higher education institutions. This year’s edition of the award aimed to reinforce institutional excellence, encourage student innovation, and support national sustainability goals across various sectors. The award categories were expanded to include small and medium enterprises (SMEs), industrial and tourism companies, in addition to student companies from universities, colleges, and schools. OCMT made a prominent and honorable presence through the participation of two student-led companies, “Ewan” and “EnviroSense”, both presenting pioneering ideas that reflect the spirit of innovation and entrepreneurial ambition among the college’s students. Crowning this participation, “EnviroSense” secured second place in the Student Companies – Higher Education category, marking a significant achievement for the college. The company’s idea focuses on developing a smart device utilizing Internet of Things (IoT) technology to monitor air quality and accurately detect pollutants, thereby contributing to environmental sustainability and public health by providing real-time data that supports informed decision-making. The second participating company, “Ewan,” presented a project aimed at connecting students with reliable digital platforms that offer safe and suitable accommodation options near their academic institutions—addressing a real and growing need in student life. This remarkable performance reflects OCMT’s unwavering commitment to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship among its students. By supporting meaningful student-led projects, the college seeks to enhance graduate readiness, provide real-world experiences, and contribute to a productive, sustainable, and knowledge-based society in line with Oman Vision 2040. The event also included a visual presentation outlining the evaluation process of all participating companies and concluded with honoring the winners and assessment committee members. In his speech, Eng. Hamoud Al-Saadi expressed pride in the national talents showcased, emphasizing that innovation remains a cornerstone for building a bright future.
